I've gotten a whole bunch of new dragons since my last post. First, the ones that have grown up:

Then I got four new eggs:

I know what type the green, purple and little eggs will hatch into, but does anyone know what the shiny blue one will become?

I went to get my haircut today. I haven't gone for a long time- I've had the same hair style for the same twenty years, straight bangs (or 'fringe' if you're in Europe) and the rest long. And my bangs grow too fast, so I just cut them myself.

So I knew that the long ends were bad, and told the lady who cuts my hair to trim whatever needed trimming. She said it would be seven inches- did I want to go for ten and do Locks of Love? I said 'sure'. Locks of Love is a program that makes human-hair wigs for cancer patients- I had done it before, about three years ago, and donated twelve inches.

And now my hair is nearly a foot shorter. It's still a little weird, but it's still long enough to pull back, so I'm okay (it comes just about to my elbow now, where before it came down to my hip bone). Although, it won't stay in the twisty-bun-thing I usually wear, so I put it in braids. I might have to do that for a while until it grows out again. And Maybe I can do pigtails like Abby:) It was too long before...

The other day, I was re-shelving books, and once again, I noticed how our library's categorizing could use some help. Some books by the same author are mysteries, but some are regular fiction (and they all look like mysteries to me), and some that are clearly sci-fi or romance are in there, too. So, I came up with a way to tell of a book is sci-fi or romance: Look at the front cover. Is there a half-naked person on the cover? If that person is male, it's a romance- bonus points if he has a girl swooning in his arms. If the person is female, it's either sci-fi or fantasy (if she's wearing armor and/or carrying a really big sword, go with fantasy; if she has a ray gun, it's sci-fi).

Using this basic guide, you can properly file almost any book! Unless it's non-fiction, of course...

Sometimes the best presents are the simplest ones- or the most useful. My junior year of high school, I came down with the flu on Christmas day. That year, my parents had gotten me a fleece blanket with Batman on it. It was very, very warm, so I stayed wrapped up in it the whole week I was sick. Then, I took it to college with me, where my dorm room had a manic-depressive heater. Especially the last couple years, it could either be eighty degrees (not an exaggeration- I had a thermometer) or down to about fifty. On the really cold nights, I put the blanket right in my sheets and kept snuggly warm.

I would just enhance a power I already have- invisibility. Without even trying, I am apparently hard to see. I sneak up on my friends all the time, even when they know I'm there! It was also great when I was stage manager/crew in college.

This week, I've been working my own hours, another person's who does the front desk, as well as two days for one of the pages- through Monday, so I'm not done yet. At the front desk, we check out books, register people for cards and collect fines; pages check in and re-shelve books. I mostly like both jobs, but by today, my feet hurt

I haven't gotten very much writing done (sorry to anyone who's waiting for one of my drabbles) but I have had enough time to play with my virtual dragons. Four of them have grown up now:

One of the down sides to working at the same library as your mother is that they always know where to find you. I wasn't scheduled for any hours today, but one of the other front-desk girls apparently had some issue with a patron and left. She's done this before, but usually, she just goes and rearranges books in the back room. So, after having gone to sleep at seven this morning, I got my butt dragged out of bed to finish her shift, noon to five p.m. It's great fun trying to make change in your head while operating on four hours' sleep.

And even without fun things like that, it's never dull at the front desk. We always get people asking where they should return books (perhaps, the large slot inside the door marked 'returns'?) Or people who want to check out a book, but they don't have their library card, or their ID, and wonder why we won't let them. Or, my personal favorite, the people who want to return a book, who walk past the return slot and through the alarm sensors, set off the alarm, then look completely confused, turn around and walk back through the alarm and set it off again. It's the book, people. The books set off the alarm.

This is why people confuse me.
